shining a light on those who need us most
This has been a year of great progress for Harris Health System. As champions of health, we have continued to enhance, renovate and innovate across our system. Just as exciting, we’ve taken a giant leap forward in our quest to become a transformative model of care in our community by addressing the unique challenges of the people we serve.

a message to our community
We have taken a different approach to our 2019 Report to the Community. This is fitting in light of our commitment to improve the health and well-being of Harris County.
Typically, this report has a strong focus on the past year’s extraordinary accomplishments involving our outstanding medical teams, our latest technological advances and the state of our investment in our community’s health. Of course, we have much to report in that regard again this year.
This year, however, we are using a more dynamic digital format to share with you some of the exciting new initiatives taking shape as we strive to become a transformative model of care.
Reaching beyond the parameters of traditional medicine and the bricks and mortar of our countywide facilities, Harris Health System is creating deeper community partnerships to help us address the social and environmental determinants of health that affect the well-being of so many of the people we serve.
We are already seeing impressive outcomes and enthusiastic support for these initiatives, including the bountiful harvest at our Community Farm at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and our new Food Farmacy at Strawberry Health Center. We plan to replicate these winning efforts and more like them with our Community Health Hubs across our system.
It is our pleasure to present this report and the many proud moments it reflects.
